The safest way to add tannins to your water and naturally protect your angelfish from bacteria and pathogens. Indian Almond leaves, also known as Catappa leaves, can be used in aquariums to lower pH levels and improve the health of fish. The leaves contain organic compounds that release tannic acid, humic acids, and fulvic acids, which can help keep sensitive species like freshwater shrimp and certain South American fish (angelfish, discus, etc.) healthy. The leaves can also reduce the risk of mild infections and improve the immune system of fish. We source our leaves directly from a family in Sri Lanka that sends us large leaves preserved with the right amount of humidity (so that they don’t crush and turn to dust when you touch them). Add a little, or add a bunch. If you have harder water, it will naturally buffer the pH reduction. Just don’t add so much that you can’t see your beautiful Angelfish!
